It
all started when Karl posted a message on
Migweb with a plea:
Hi
guys
One
of my best mates phoned me today, he told
me about his cousin, who i havnt met.
The lad is 16 years old and has had cancer
now for some time, but things have got
alot worse and hes only been given 3 weeks
to live. Hes really into modified cars
but has never had the chance to go in
one or go to any shows.
What
im asking is, would any of you guys be
intrested in spending a morning cheering
the lad up? My friend wants me to go and
take him out in my car and i thought it
would be a bit more special if i could
turn up with a load of cars and really
make his day.
He
lives in chester, just a trip up the m6
from birmingham for me.
Hope
you guys can help me, think its the least
we can do to try and make the time he
has left, as good as possible.
Thanks
for reading. Karl
This
then grew into a massive forum called Robin's
Forum!
Within
a week the forum had over 100 members all
interacting about this event for Robin.
Next was to find a location. There were
a few ideas and alot of requests sent out.
Then with 24 hours left to go Sly (Si) gave
us all a surprise. He had been talking to
Lauren from Vauxhall at Ellesmere Port and
she had offered us the use of one of their
car parks from 1200 - 1600.
Saturday
31st August at 0800 at Newport Pagnell services
with Iggyrst in his Celica , Mittens in
his Metro and Mungo in his ERST. Then enters
a very blurry eyed Snazy and passengers
in his Vectra!!
We
set off for Ellesmere port. It took 2 1/2
hours to get there including stops and it
was worth it.
We
pulled up and there were 10 cars already
there. We met Si, Karl and Ace. As we were
talking slowly people started to arrive.
From a Nova to a Noble. They just kept coming.
Words cannot describe the feeling you get
inside when you see convoy after convoy
arriving all there for one reason and one
reason only ROBIN.

By
1300 there were around 300 cars all behaving
as had been requested. When Robin and his
family arrived Karl left them in peace to
have a wander round and just take in exactly
what was going on. A Clio V6 caught Robin's
eye and Mark who owed the Clio took Robin
out for a ride. He came back a very happy
chappy.
I
quote "I will never forget
Robin's face when he got out of
Mark's Clio. I don't know what you
did mate but it must have worked!
Something about sideways round every
island he said." |

After
a few hours Si, Ace and Karl went round
with a bucket collecting money for charity.
They raised £400 for a charity of
the families choice.
At
1550 security came to move the final few
people out of the car park and by 1600 we
were on our way home.
The
day was a complete success and it was so
nice just to see such a wide variety of
people turning out for what was a great
event.
Another
quote from the forum:
"I do believe this week has changed
my whole outlook on life. What started
as a simple plea on 2 vauxhall sites,
has turned into something i feel proud
to be involved in. I thank every single
person who has made this day possible,
and everyone who will be attending. You
are all heroes, every single one of you
and i consider you all friends for the
rest of my life.
Never
did i consider the support robin would
recieve from people who have not even
had the pleasure to speak to him. It just
shows how many people this illness touches.
If it wasnt for the internet, this whole
day would of been a dream and never would
it of been possible. Thank you.
I
think finally i have worked out whats
important in life, thank you all for opening
my eyes. May this be the start of many
more days like this, i for one will make
sure this is not the last time we make
a dream come true." Karl
